The Hong Kong International Stationery Fair, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, is going to welcome its 19th edition at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from today i.e. 7th jan and it will be there till 10th. The four-day fair will attract an estimate of around 260 exhibitors from across the globe, and more than 21,000 international visitors.

Exports grow as demand from the Chinese mainland rises

Hong Kong stationery exports are regaining momentum after experiencing a setback in 2015. In 2017, a 4% increase was recorded and the export volume remains steady in the first quarter of 2018. The Chinese mainland, which recorded a 16.7% increase in export value last year, remains the major market, accounting for more than half of Hong Kong’s total stationery exports in 2017.

World leading statistics company Statista also showed optimism towards the stationery market as they expect global revenue for the “Hobby and Stationery” segment to reach USD176 billion in 2018, and an annual growth rate of 9.6% between 2018 and 2022.

Distinct product zones and key pavilions for an enhanced sourcing experience

The upcoming fair will be organised into five distinct product zones, namely DIY Supplies, Gift Stationery, Kids & School, Pen & Paper and Smart Office, for an easy-to-navigate sourcing environment. Another element that adds value to the fair, is support from the industry across Asia. The fair will continue to feature pavilions from Korea and Taiwan in cooperation with renowned industry associations, the Korea Stationery Industry Cooperative (KSIC) and the Taiwan Association of Stationery Industries.

To be at the forefront of new developments and to keep its customers enthusiastic – that is what the retail trade wants. ‘Staging’ is the buzzword to guarantee a successful business year 2019 for the paper, office supplies and stationery trade. At tomorrow’s workplace it is all about “perspectives for the future.” It is with this in mind that Paperworld, from 26 to 29 January 2019, will be offering inspiration and sector expertise in its complementary programme.

The leading international trade fair for paper, office supplies and stationery will be showing its visitors in Frankfurt am Main both the latest developments for tomorrow’s workplace (visionary office) and the latest trends in private paper and stationery requisites (stationery trends). Both the approximately 1,600 exhibitors and the wide variety of the complementary programme will be showing what is new in the two segments.

The events at Paperworld offer added value to wholesalers, retailers and the specialist trade, for bookshops, the internet and mail-order trade, and for trade buyers from major companies. “We are investing in a varied and high-quality complementary programme, in order to offer our visitors a profit-making further-training platform. At the same time we wish to give the sector some fresh incentives, to support the trade and to address new target groups”, says Michael Reichhold, Paperworld Director. On all four days of the fair, visitors will experience special presentations, trend-oriented events, talks on specialist subjects, and high-profile award ceremonies.

Participation in the complementary programme is already included in the ticket price. A valuable service is provided by the digital event calendar, which is available on the Paperworld website. There visitors will find the dates of all events at a glance and can form their personal programme for an efficient visit to the fair.

The visionary office: events and information on every aspect of the modern office workplace

The ‘visionary office’ section will be showcasing products which will make tomorrow’s workplace into a modern office. This selection – unique in the world – of office equipment and facilities, organisation and presentational vehicles, office paper, writing and drawing implements, EDP and printer accessories, and recycled printing materials will be supplemented by a high-quality complementary programme.

In Hall 3.0 C51 the complementary programme will concentrate entirely on the Future Office. This time the innovation forum, featuring a talks programme and exhibition area, will be focusing on ‘flexibility.’ Through this focus once again Paperworld will be illuminating a current topic of the future and a subject engaging the sector.

“Flexible design of office premises, zone concepts, clean desk and mobile devices are the answers to flexible working requirements. That is why companies are investing increasingly in new concepts and office facilities and in mobile terminals. The Future Office will be showing how this can be put into practice at the workplace”, says Michael Reichhold. It is about flexible working hours and mobile work locations, but it is also about agile office concepts – such as zones for individual and concentrated work, meeting rooms and areas for social intercourse. “A particular feature of the special show will be its close spatial linkage with the exhibition area, communication zones and talks area”, says architect André Schmidt from Matter Architects in Berlin, curator of the special presentation. Two special topic days, especially for architects, planners and facility managers, will also be on the agenda.

A NEW presentation in 2019 will be New Envelope – Packaging for E-Commerce in Hall 3.0 C31. The e-commerce in mail-ordering theme park, presented by the Association for the German Envelope Industry (Verband der deutschen Briefumschlag-Industrie e.V. (VDBF)) for the first time at Paperworld, will be a market place for internet retailing, packaging and postal -service providers and operators of the trading platforms associated with them. The exhibition area will showcase various packaging solutions for the shipment of e-commerce products. “We are very pleased to have this partnership with the VDBF, which will present this topic, of such high contemporary relevance to the sector, in a comprehensive way at Paperworld. That will be a genuine addition and a valuable perspective into the future”, says Michael Reichhold. Specialist talks will also be held, on the focal topic of “e-commerce cleverly packaged.”

In Hall 5.1 D54 all visitors to the four-day congress, the ‘Remcon Seminars’, at the Remanexpo product area will be able to find out about the latest developments in reconditioned printer consumables and hard-copy components. Current topics such as Brexit and its impact on the sector, or digital-marketing and social-media strategies will also be considered in the talks. The congress is free of charge and the talks will be given in English. The high-profile recycling awards will also be presented to selected representatives of the sector in the Congress Area. The congress and the prize-giving are being organised by Paperworld in collaboration with the trade journal The Recycler.

The Paperworld Assistants’ Day will be an exclusive special-topic day especially for office-assistant staff. For them it is important to keep up to date about the latest paper, office supplies and stationery products and office trends, since they are themselves often involved in the selection and purchase of office materials. On Saturday 26 January 2019 experts will be giving practical recommendations in talks. In his talk “Personality has impact”, for example, Crístián Gálvez will be inspiring his listeners to show themselves from their best side and to bring authenticity and enthusiasm to their work. In the Europa Saal (entrance in Foyer of Hall 4.0) the event will also be offering an opportunity to talk and exchange notes with other assistant staff and experts. Participation at a charge and only after pre-registration at paperworld.messefrankfurt.com/assistenztag

Paperworld Procurement is intended for buyers from companies and public-administration authorities with more than 100 office workplaces. This exclusive business programme will take place on Monday 28 January 2019 in the Europa Saal (entrance in Foyer of Hall 4.0). The linkage between a talks programme with major speakers, an exhibition area featuring the Office Gold Cub with well-known brand manufacturers from the sector, and excellent networking opportunities is designed especially for the participants. Keynote speaker Kristina zur Mühlen, well-known TV journalist and chairperson, in her talk entitled “In which future do we want to live? - How we deal with digital change”, will be encouraging the audience, through her own thoughts, to see changes as an opportunity. Participation only after pre-registration at paperworld.messefrankfurt.com/procurement

On Sustainable Office Day on Tuesday 29 January 2019 everything will focus on the subject of sustainability. In talks and discussions experts will provide insights into the latest developments in the sustainable office world and consider the challenges posed by ecologically fair procurement. The talk by Monika Missalla-Steinmann, PR director at the Agency for Renewable Raw Materials (Fachagentur für nachwachsende Rohstoffe e.V. (FNR)), will be devoted to the sustainable office and office products made from renewable materials. Likewise part of the programme will be the “Office and Environment” prize-giving and the announcement of the competition for 2019. This special-topic day is free to all fair visitors and will take place in the Europa Saal (entrance in Foyer of Hall 4.0).

The curtains came down on another successful edition of Paperworld China, with stakeholders from across the paper and office supplies industries commending the fair as the ideal place to generate new business and learn about the latest retailing models. The three-day fair, which took place from 22 – 24 November 2018 in Hall 1 of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), was also applauded for championing unique and original stationery products.

Now in its 14th edition, the fair was held under the new theme of “Stationery trends. Tomorrow’s office” and was split across 23,000 sqm of exhibition space into four zones dedicated to ‘Stationery and Hobby’, ‘Tomorrow’s Office’, ‘Quality Suppliers’, and ‘Oriental Products’.

Visitor numbers rose 15% from the previous edition of the fair, as a total of 26,868 trade visitors converged at the show to search for the latest forward thinking designs and innovations.  For many of these visitors, the fair was not only a great place to connect with Chinese suppliers, but also an ideal platform to meet quality international brands. Overall, 499 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions participated at the fair.

Ms Judy Cheung, Deputy General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd, spoke about how this year’s edition of the fair was ideally situated to serve the market’s requirements: “Younger generations are now becoming the dominant consumer group for stationery. The warm response to the fair’s themed areas, such as the ‘Stationery and Hobby’ zone and the ‘Small yet Beautiful’ showcase demonstrates that Paperworld China is catering extremely well to this demographic. Original stationery has also been a big hit among buyers at this edition, and we are proud to have done our part to promote original and unique designs through the Best Stationery of China Awards and the new ‘Design’ area. In terms of generating new business, the positive feedback from exhibitors is testament to the fair’s effectiveness as a platform for suppliers to connect with quality buyers and increase their brand exposure.”

Original stationery and new retailing models spotlighted at ‘Small Yet Beautiful’ showcase and new ‘Design area’

A number of themed zones and areas at this year’s edition of the fair fulfilled a variety of sourcing needs and attracted thousands of buyers to the aisles of each zone.

The ‘Stationery and Hobby’ zone was awash with visitors and the returning ‘Small yet Beautiful’ showcase was a hive of activity, with buyers sampling a wide range of stationery, gift and lifestyle products from leading brands such as Beifa, Guangbo, Mindwave, Simbalion and ZIPIT.

Not only was the 250 sqm showcase a great place to find new stationery items, but it was also a window into future retail trends. With younger generations beginning to have a greater influence on buying patterns, many stationery stores have been redesigned to offer an improved overall shopping experience. The showcase addressed this trend through a café area, unique methods of product presentation, and an interactive art station.

Ms Xu Feng, the owner of Shenyang Aofeisi Shangmao Ltd, spoke about how visiting helped her to find the latest trend setting products for her retail stores: “The fair hosts a wide variety of suppliers, from well-known brand names to small and medium companies, and plenty of cultural and creative products. It caters to buyers with all kinds of different sourcing needs. I have exchanged contacts with around five to six brands from China, Japan and Germany, and will find out if there is room for cooperation after the show. The set-up of the ‘Small yet Beautiful’ area brings a new and in-depth experience to visitors. It definitely helps visitors to understand the current diversified sales patterns.”

Original brands were an important part of the 2018 show and a spotlight was placed on the increasing standard of unique Chinese stationery design through the ‘Best Stationery of China Awards’. The awards took place the day before the show and a wide selection of entries were on display to visitors during the course of the fair. Some of the highlights included unique bookmark designs from PaperPlay and Sozencreate, ladybug styled miniature scissors from Guangzhou Qiwen Business Development, vegetable and fruit themed kitchen timers from Hangzhou Hechuang Culture Products, automatic pencil sharpeners from Shanghai Han Shu Industry, and a selection of fashionable travel logs, daily planners and diaries from companies such as Chenzao, Kokuyo Commerce, and Shenzhen Comix Group.

Shandong Orange Paper was one of the winners at the awards with its uniquely designed paper globes. The General Manager of the company, Ms Jiang Shaoying, spoke about how the awards helped to raise awareness of their unique design and attract trade visitors to their booth: “The organiser has featured our brand on its social media platform, and our stand has been constantly swarming with visitors. The fair enables us to meet agents and industry players who are pioneering new retail business models. We have met many professional buyers from both mainland China and abroad and have received the most up-to-date information about the industry. We will definitely participate again.”

The company was one of many emerging brands exhibiting at the new ‘Design’ area, which offered original brands the chance to showcase their latest designs and increase their brand exposure. Unique products could be found at the area from brands such as AIT, Card Lover, Douban, Ggem, Happihood, Honorscent, Orange Creation, Tsnow Stationery, Whitehole, and Xiaolin Creative.

‘Quality Suppliers’ and ‘Tomorrow’s Office’ zones connect exhibitors with the most relevant cross-section of buyers

At the ‘Quality Suppliers’ zone, exhibitors benefited from the fair’s high visitor flow as plenty of opportunities were taken to make new business contacts. Umajirushi, a Japanese company and first time exhibitor at Paperworld China attended to boost its exposure and competitiveness in the Chinese market.

Mr Telon Syu, Chief of Overseas Trading & Purchasing at the company, spoke about how exhibiting at the zone allowed the company to connect with quality buyers and generate new business: “We are amazed at how effective the fair is, as we have already received around 10 orders in the first two days. The visitor flow is excellent and we have received a lot of positive and encouraging feedback. The fair has provided exhibitors with the latest information on the industry, which is very helpful for devising targeted marketing strategies.”

Another Japanese company exhibiting at the zone, Mindwave, returned to the show to capitalise on the huge potential in the Chinese market for their specialised journals. Ms Gu Jie, a representative of the company, agreed that the show is an excellent avenue for foreign suppliers to find large Chinese distributors and retailers: “We see tremendous potential in the journal market in China as nowadays journals are very popular among teenagers and young mothers. Paperworld China is the right place for us to penetrate this market. From our first participation last year, we obtained leads from distributors and large-scale retailers. This year we are meeting them again and also new ones.”

At the ‘Tomorrow’s Office’ zone, Paperworld China proved itself to be a great place for visitors to meet with suppliers of modern office equipment. In co-operation with Sunon Group and Zhejiang Growin International Exhibition & Convention Co Ltd, a dedicated showcase allowed visitors to find new electronic appliances and desktop equipment for modern office settings.

Mr Kenny Zhu, Sales Director of Sunon Group talked about how the zone was aligned with modern office trends and how exhibiting at the zone allowed the company to gage customer requirements: “The concept of tomorrow’s office is forward thinking. In line with this, we have launched a series of office furniture which is equipped with smart devices, such as wireless charging stands and remote controls. The fair is definitely a great platform for us to meet potential clients from all over China and get first-hand information regarding customer demands.”

Seminars, workshops and dialogues illuminate newly developing trends

Running alongside the fair was a series of educational events that brought together experts, designers and industry leaders to share new ideas and insights on a range of important topics.

The subject of the evolving retail landscape was a recurring theme at the ‘Sino-Japanese Book Stationery Industry Summit Forum’, which examined ‘open’ retail environments that can also be considered as cultural spaces. Led by industry experts from China and Japan, the forum used case studies of Japanese retail outlets and also examined the merging of book and stationery retail.

Speaking about how the well-received forum allowed industry players to deepen their understanding of overseas retail models, Mr Guoji Ding, General Manager of Shanghai Yinling Brand Consulting said: “The retail market has undergone many changes in recent years. More integrated cultural spaces and stores that are popular online have been set up all over first and second tier cities in mainland China. Through this forum, industry players can learn how overseas’ business models work, discuss how to create retail stores with unique cultural elements, and discover new ways of boosting profits. The result is very encouraging. The visitors were professional and have raised deep and meaningful questions. I will definitely come and host other forums at Paperworld China again.”

Mr Ding’s positive sentiments about the meaningful exchanges of information that took place at Paperworld China were also echoed by a fellow speaker, Mr Toru Okuizumi, the President of the Japanese company Toukou bros, who said: “The platform has provided us with a good opportunity to communicate and exchange experiences and information with each other, and has also allowed us to learn about current developments and trends in China. I believe both event speakers and attendees can draw on the experiences gained at Paperworld China.”

The next edition of Paperworld China will take place in November 2019.

Paperworld China, Asia’s leading trade fair dedicated to the stationery and office supplies industries, will be held from 22 – 24 November, 2018 at hall 5.2 of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). As of June, more than 300 renowned companies have confirmed their participation, including Guangdong Hualong Stationery, M&G COLIPU, Ningbo BEIFA, PILOT, Shenzhen Comix, Taiwan Lion Pencil, Umajirushi, ZEBRA, Zhejiang Guangbo and many more.

Held under the theme “Stationery trends. Tomorrow’s office”, the 2018 edition will be classified into four zones. Namely: Tomorrow’s Office, Stationery and Hobby, Quality Suppliers, and Oriental Products. The theme and structure are intended to reflect the transformations taking place in China’s stationery and office supplies industries, such as the acceleration in consumerism and the upcoming 2019 launch of a 5G network in China.

Alongside the new network launch, new technologies such as cloud computing, mobile office, VR conference, data security, and more will bring significant transformations to modern offices and their related supply sectors. Over the next five years, Paperworld China will work with quality industry players to display these new cutting-edge office concepts and products to the industry. A sample of what’s to come will be on display during the 2018 edition at the Tomorrow’s Office zone, where industry leaders such as Sunon Group, M&G COLIPU, and other leading brands will demonstrate new office concepts. They will also introduce concepts for office environments that are green, smart, shared and lifestyle friendly to the industry.

Consumer decision making patterns are also evolving. As younger generations become the dominant group for stationery consumption, the importance of product functionality is being replaced by brand image, appearance, originality and a host of other factors.

At the same time, stationery stores, book stores and gift shops are undergoing significant transformations to provide better overall shopping experiences for their customers. Reflecting these trends at the fair will be the Small yet Beautiful showcase located at the Stationery and Hobby zone.

The expanded showcase will scale 250sqm and serve as a mock retail store that includes a cafe area and an interactive art workshop. Also featured at the showcase will be adaptations of Zakka, a Japanese concept that describes a wide variety of miscellaneous consumer goods. Items on display will include Chinese stationery and related products for home office environments.

The fair will also welcome a strong contingent of Chinese manufacturers at the Quality Suppliers zone. With the support of various Chinese stationery industry hubs, the zone will host more than 300 companies including pavilions from Taiwan, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Yiwu, Cixi, Qingyuan, and more. The highest standard of stationery manufacturing will be represented at the zone, which will serve as an ideal one stop sourcing platform for buyers.

Meanwhile, the Oriental Products zone will be transformed, as the Oriental Sense area and the Creative Pavilion are incorporated into the new coming China Arts International Cultural & Creative Products Show (IAC SHOW). Held concurrently with Paperworld China 2018, the IAC SHOW aims to promote the market for cultural and handicraft products. It will be organised by the China Poly Group Corporation Ltd and the China National Arts & Crafts (Group) Corporation, and co-organised by the China Arts and Crafts Association (CA&CA). Idongjia APP, an online marketplace for crafts and handmade products will also work in collaboration with the IAC SHOW.

The 2018 edition of Paperworld China will be packed with hobby and art materials, scrapbooks and a host of interactive experiences. Just a few highlights are a timeline of Chinese Stationery history, a creative interactive experience, and the 2018 Journal Market held in cooperation with the Shanghai Journal.

Another popular attraction will be the “time will tell” forum, which will be held in cooperation with inspirational women’s brand and high quality journal supplier “Chenzao”. The forum is expected to attract some 300 attendees and will focus on the many ways in which journals can be used as effective tools to achieve personal goals and improve time management.

In addition, the new “Best Stationery of China BSOC” awards which are dedicated to discovering excellent stationery design work from around the world will grab industry players’ attention. The awards, which are organised by Paperworld China 2018 also aim to improve the standard of Chinese made stationery. As of the end of June 2018, the organising committee, which is formed of 24 professionals from the Chinese stationery industry, had received more than 200 designs from around the world including many outstanding Chinese pieces.

Submissions included an art and graphic collection box named “The KARLBOX” created by A.W.Faber-Castell and Chanel’s head of creative direction, Karl Lagerfeld. Results of the competition will be announced at the fair.

At the same time, the new arrangement opens up new perspectives that are crucial for fresh ideas, and lead to valuable business contacts.

The visionary office with innovations in the commercial office supplies sector

From office machines and equipment, organisational and presentation aids, office paper, writing and drawing instruments to IT and printer supplies and remanufactured printer materials, every product segment that makes tomorrow's workplace a visionary office will be on display. In the office supplies product area in Hall 3.0, exhibitors include Exacompta-Clairefontaine, Herma, HSM, Krug and Priester (Ideal), Olympia and Veloflex. Exhibiting once again with their own stand are: Durable, Holtz Office Support, Jakob Maul, Novus Dahle, Pelikan, Schneider writing instruments, Sigel, Tesa, and Trodat.

Hall 4.0 is occupied by writing and drawing instruments in the office area and school supplies in the stationery area. This product mix has proven itself, as the writing and drawing instruments are aimed mainly at a young target group, which is perfectly complemented by the schoolbags, pencil cases, notebooks, pads, folders and licenses. Writing instrument exhibitors include: Adel, Carioca, Kum, Möbius & Ruppert and Scrikss. The Remanexpo product group with OEM and printer consumables with related components, hardware and software and recycled printer materials, is moving from Hall 6.0 to Hall 5.1 in 2019, thus moving up to the Via Mobile level.

Among others Axro, Clover, Integral, Imcopex, Pedro Schöller, SAS Armor, Static Control, Winterholdt & Hering and WTA Carsten Weser will be present. KMP AG are also making a comeback to the area this time.

Top German and international buyers from all sales and distribution levels, such as wholesalers, foreign and retail traders, drop shippers, trade organisations as well as mail order and online traders, all find the right products at Paperworld.

“Future Office” shines a light on flexible working

The supporting programme in Hall 3.0, C51 is all about the “Future Office”. This time, the special show with a speaker program and its own exhibition space concentrates on “flexibility”. With this focus, Paperworld once again highlights a topical future and industry theme in the world of work.

“Flexible office design, zone concepts, clean desk and mobile devices are answers to flexible work requirements. That’s why companies are increasingly investing in new concepts, office equipment and mobile devices. The ‘Future Office’ shows how this can be implemented at the workplace,” says Michael Reichhold, Director of Paperworld, Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH.

It covers themes like flexible working hours, mobile workspaces, and agile office concepts - such as zones for individual and focused work, meeting rooms, and areas for social interchanges. “The special show is characterised by a close spatial interlinking of exhibition areas, communication zones and the theme and presentation area”, says architect André Schmidt of Architekturbüro Matter in Berlin, curator of the display.

The stationery trends with lifestyle products for the non-business paper and stationery sector

In the Stationery segment, the product areas gift giving, packaging and celebrating, which include paper goods, greeting cards, small leather goods, accessories, napkins, table decorations and designs, are relocating from Halls 5.1 and 6.1 to Hall 3.1 in 2019. This new product mix offers both exhibitors and visitors numerous advantages: Exhibitors can position themselves in their market environment with their competitors and gain simpler access to additional purchasing groups. At the same time, trade visitors get to see which product range additions are available for their areas of business, and have the chance to establish contact with the manufacturers. Hall 3.1 will host greeting card publishers like Hallmark Cards and UK Greetings as well as suppliers of gift articles and greeting cards such as bsb-obpacher, Depesche, Becker & Becker Vertrieb - better known as Grafik Werkstatt. Paper + Design are also present once again with their table decorations. Manufacturers such as Francesco Brizzolari, Saul Sadoch and Zöllner-Wiethoff present their gift packaging. Publisher Leuchtturm Albenverlag or Boost, part of the Lediberg Group, are also present on this hall level with organisational aids, calendars and notebooks. In addition, Artoz Papier and Rössler Papier will be showing paperware, Caran d´Ache, tablet writing utensils, and Kaweco H&M Gutberlet writing instruments. Hall 4.0 will be divided into two areas: writing instruments and school supplies. Gabol, Lyc Sac, Sportandem and Lannoo Graphics, Zipit will present everything from the area of school supplies.

New for this area is the special show Future Learning.

It presents visitors with current and future-oriented learning concepts. The emphasis here is strongly on lifelong learning. What are the new possibilities? How do virtual reality glasses support learning? And what’s

new in the paper, office supplies and stationery sector? The show will feature specialist talks and presentation areas that allow visitors to immerse themselves in a world of learning that they have never experienced before.

Paperworld provides the writing instrument and high-quality paper goods trade - whether specialist stationery shops, booksellers, gift shops, toy retailers or department stores and supermarkets - with everything they need for their product range. Buyers from the food trade, drugstores, self -service department stores, decoration retailers and furniture shops will also find an attractive additional assortment here. The product segments high- quality writing instruments and pens, school supplies, greeting cards, paper goods, gift items, packaging and small leather goods offer buyers a unique variety of products and the latest lifestyle trends

Highly varied programme of accompanying events provides fresh ideas for the trade

A special highlight is the “Paperworld Trends”, which will have a new home in Hall 3.1 F10 in 2019. The area will showcase two stationery trends and an office trend display for the 2019/20 season. Messe Frankfurt commissioned designers from the bora.herke.palmisano style agency to pick up on trends in fashion, architecture and art, and adapt them to the world of stationery and office supplies. Guided tours and lectures will be offered daily.

The special exhibition “Mr Books and Mrs Paper”, which is moving to Hall 3.1 C80, is aimed at booksellers and dealers who want to effectively combine books, paper goods and stationery products - so-called non-book articles. The orchestrated arrangement of the products in different areas of focus shows how the retail sector can stage its point of sale emotionally, and generate incentives to buy with additional product ranges. Curator Angelika Niestrath will guide visitors through the special exhibition several times a day and report on current non-book trends in the book trade.

In the BMWi promotional area in hall 3.1 J10, young start-ups present their fresh ideas and unconventional products. For visitors, the area is an inspiring source of information to get to know new, forward-looking product ideas from the paper, office supplies and stationery sector. The innovation platform is a valuable starting aid for the young companies , as it is supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

The packaging show Wrap Up! shows tips and tricks on how gifts can be wrapped quickly and attractively. Wrapping expert Ulla Büning demonstrates step by step several times a day how unique gift creations can also be created with little effort in the retail trade.

The Oriental Culture exhibition in Hall 3.1 A11 shows a piece of the Orient with fine craftsmanship and products that combine traditional design and Far Eastern characteristics.

    • Toy fair Kids Russia to run in Moscow from 12 to 14 March 2019
    • Registration now open for the WoT Pavilion

The 13th Kids Russia is scheduled to open its doors at the Crocus Expo International Exhibition Centre in Moscow from 12 to 14 March 2019. Organised by GRAND EXPO, CJSC, a Russian exhibition organiser in which Spielwarenmesse eG holds a majority stake, this trade fair is an important event for the Eastern European toy industry. Spielwarenmesse eG’s international fair programme World of Toys helps international companies gain entry to the Russian market. Following a period of market decline, the economic situation there has become more stable, making it possible for the international pavilion to take place again.

Taking part in this programme enables export-led manufacturers to present their products and ideas to a wide trade audience, giving them direct access to Eastern European business contacts.

Spielwarenmesse eG provides professional support right from the start, ensuring that the event is a resounding success for everyone involved.

Kids Russia is a well-established Russian trade fair for toys and hobby products in Eastern Europe. Its portfolio also includes baby and outdoor products as well as playground equipment and sports goods. In recent years, the event has extended its reach far beyond Russia’s borders. This is reflected in the rising quality of visitors as well as excellent networking opportunities. Numerous decision makers flock to the fair to order current and innovative products.

Moreover, the trade fair promotes cooperation between Russian and international producers and retailers. Valuable synergies are created by the concurrent event Licensing World Russia where leading licensing companies and agencies show how licenced products can effectively boost sales.

Ernst Kick, CEO Spielwarenmesse eG, explains why it makes sense to take part: “Through Kids Russia and the World of Toys programme, we wish to offer companies professional support and make the Russian market attractive for international toy makers again. Improvements in the demographic situation and political support for Russian families are fuelling market growth.”

The World of Toys international fair programme gives participants uncomplicated support before, during and after the event. The companies are assigned a direct contact at Spielwarenmesse eG, who is always on hand with help and advice. The programme also includes a wide range of services, such as visitor marketing activities and a turn-key exhibition stand with basic furnishings at the attractive, high-exposure World of Toys Pavilion.

The Hong Kong International Stationery Fair, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, will be welcoming its 19th edition at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre next year from 7 – 10 January. The four-day fair will attract an estimate of around 260 exhibitors from across the globe, and more than 21,000 international visitors.

Exports grow as demand from the Chinese mainland rises

Hong Kong stationery exports are regaining momentum after experiencing a setback in 2015[1].

    Highly praised by exhibitors

With its long history and strong connection with international buyers, many exhibitors see the fair as a must-attend event of the year. One such exhibitor is PT. Solo Murni, the second biggest stationery manufacturer in Indonesia, who will be joining the fair for the 7th consecutive year in 2019. “At the 2018 edition, we introduced a new range of high quality copy paper which received a number of solid business enquiries from American and Asian buyers. We will be here again next year to promote another new product. The fair is definitely a valuable place as a gateway to the market trends and product developments in the Asia Pacific region.” said Mr Johnson Ho, Vice President of the company.

Another returning company will be Wenzhou Kaiwen Stationery & Sports Manufacturing Co Ltd from the Chinese mainland – an exhibitor at the previous 5 editions of the fair. “HKISF is an important platform for us to tap into global markets, and as such we will keep coming back. To stay competitive in the market, we launch new products with popular designs at every edition of HKISF.” said Ms Wendy Zhang, Sales Manager of the company. “The result of our participation in the previous edition was satisfying. The visitor flow was great and our booth attracted quite a lot of visitors from Europe, the US, Japan and Southeast Asia who have serious intentions to develop long term business relationships with us. Moreover, we received orders from buyers in Thailand and Korea.”

Hindustan Pencils Pvt Ltd, the largest pencil manufacturing company in India, first joined the fair in 2017. They have plans to return to the fair in 2019 as they believe it provides a golden opportunity to expand their business into the Asia Pacific market. “The show is a great opportunity to display our capabilities within the strong Asian stationery market. Through our participation, we received several big orders from stationery brands in the surrounding Asia Pacific countries. We’ll be back next year for another successful, well-organised and trend-setting show.” said Ms Priyanka Narvekar, Marketing Manager of International Business at the company.

    Synergy for more business opportunities

The Hong Kong International Stationery Fair will be held concurrently with the HKTDC’s Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair, the Hong Kong Baby Products Fair and the Hong Kong International Licensing Show at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Both the Toys & Games Fair and the International Licensing Show are the largest fairs of their kind in Asia. The four fairs together will gather approximately 126,000 buyers, creating more business opportunities for participants.
